This 224-page hardback book provides you with all the datasheets and supporting rules you need to unleash the fury of your most powerful units in Warhammer 40,000. Is that a hint of changes to come? Most notably, its aura now has a 6 radius, making it even easier to use it to shield your forces. Uraka, CorBax, and Mamon return, as well as some of the really big greater daemons. These datasheets include. Void shields now work in a much different way essentially while they are active you have a 5+ save, and each generator has 3 shield points each time you fail a save you lose a shield point, any excess damage is wasted, meaning you want to try and force them down with low Damage weapons to get the most benefit once a shield hits 0 points it collapses, but if you dont collapse it in a turn then it regains all its points in the command phase. In the meantime, head over to the Forge World website and pick up some . Fast, durable-ish units that are OK in melee is absolutely something the guard range is badly missing for 9th, so it does feel like a Krieg Vanguard or Outrider to use some of these is a genuinely plausible option. It had a good run. On top of that, the -1 to hit these is now just always on, rather than only when they advance. Credit: Jack Hunter. Any weapons that Forgeworld doesnt currently make in 28mm are gone, so goodbye to reaver chainfists and carapace weapons that arent the apocalypse missile launcher and warlord carapace weapons that arent apocalypse launchers or laser blasters. Definitely seem fine here, as you reduce the variance risk a lot. The Firepike is now 15 range, so a 3 boost which is neat. Cerastus Knight-Castigator. The Stormblade andPraetor stand out a bit as both get a signifcant bump to their main guns, with the Stormblade going up a point of damage and the Praetor getting an extra D6 shots on the firetstorm mode. The free Wraithcannon option vanishes into the mists, but the spear gets a damage bump (to d3+3) and the ability to take a D-Cannon remains. It retains the CORE keyword, and if you arm it with a kheres assault cannon or multimelta and dreadnought close combat weapon it costs the same as the codex version (well, and an extra 1 CP cost.). Transporting 12 models, you can bring in a full 10 man squad with character support, all while having tons of firepower for a mere 180 points (or 190 with the even better Volkite side-weapons). Weve seen a bit of that thus far in 9th, with hangover 8th Edition rules throwing up a few very powerful choices in the Edition transition, while other units are complete trash at their Chapter Approved costs. Engineers are less exciting they lose their weird super shotguns and are basically kind of boring. The Death Korps also get a Regimental Doctrine and datasheets for their unique Death Rider models. Wings:Its Xenos time, and as the chief elf-liker/army understander, Im taking the wheel from here, starting with Craftworlds. 1 - Imperial Guard and Imperial Navy, Vol. The rest are what they are. Remoras are also easy winner, because they get two seeker missiles for free, more wounds, and are always in cover just huge boosts all round with no cost increase. The Grey Knights also get a couple of updated profiles with a renamed Land Raider Banisher, getting a small points discount and a Grey Knight specific Thunderhawk getting a massive discount in line with the new profile elsewhere in the book. The Kharybdis Assault Clawmight be for you. This tradeoff is whatever right now; nothing you really want to take has Smokescreen. Generally, this replaces the old Relic rule now each time you include a unit with this rule in a detachment the Command Cost of that detachment is increased by 1. Carab Culln takes most of the generic leviathan nerfs (see below), and also loses out on both his feel no pain aura and most of the interest from the death-hold special rule it no longer lets you hit for mortal wounds and simply lets the heavy bolter fire with no penalty at units in engagement range. Depending on how the meta moves, this could help or hinder the Ares. Agamatus Custodians [CORE]: No weapon or stat changes, but the base chassis is 5 points cheaper which is swell. As with the Space Marines we see a number of points adjustments that bring both of these forces in line with each other. 9th Edition Imperial Armour Compendium: The Goonhammer Review So what do I think of the new book? Out of the other units, theTesseract Ark also got cheaper (especially if you swap the cannots to particle beamers) but its tough to say if it truly ends up as a winner because of the change to Quantum Shielding, which is definitely a major downgrade on it. At the moment this profile only applies to the Macharius twin variant, however it would not surprise me to see that profile in the new AM book! The Dreadnoughts really eat shit here. Thats especially true because. Only once all shields are down can you start pumping damage into the Titan itself. Similar to named characters in any other book, Forgeworld has mandated a specific warlord trait for them, unfortunately that trait is Inspiring Leader from the core rulebook, so youll never actually want to make one of these characters your warlord. Shane: The Golden Boys come out mostly on top, which considering half of their unit choices are coming from this book, is quite important. Credit: CrabStuffedMushrooms. And now for the biggest gut punch: None of the Dreadnoughts listed here have the HELBRUTE keyword, meaning that until an FAQ corrects this, they dont get legion traits. Cerastus-Knight Lancer saw not only a 20 points drop, but also gained a souped up melee attack profile for when it charges. 2 - Space Marines and Forces of the Inquisition, War Machines of the Adeptus Astartes (Second Edition), Vol. GW noticed that theGargantuan Squiggothhad no business being as cheap as it was, and have substantially hiked the price. Alright lets start with the cool stuff that only Chaos Space Marines get, instead of the things we share with loyalists. Similar to the Space Marines we get a lot of traitor variants added, along with a new stratagem Smokescreen added in order to replicte the ability that Space Marines currently get in their book, again future proofing this volume until the Chaos Space Marines book is updated! Imperial Armour Compendium 40k Rules Breakdown One of the best parts about the book in our opinion is that the points costs are at the end of each section! We have a look through the book in our YouTube video, or keep scrolling to see our full written review as we did into the datasheets and changes, and investigate what goodies are within! First up, the Warboss on Warbike revs his motorcycle and pulls a sick wheely straight out of legends prison mostly. Like the Rvarna, they do get a massive point cut, but here it comes with correspondingly massive decrease in capabilities. This is a great introduction for people who may have missed out on the Siege of Vraks series and gives some brilliantly grimdark flavour to this most dark of regiments! We see some randomness removed in the Orks, especially with the Grot Tanks and Mega Tanks who now have a movement of 6+D6 rather than 2D6 making them a lot more reliable in regards to movement! Telemon Heavy Dreadnought: Besides the Plasma flamer bumping up to 12 range, the stats/weapons are unchanged (still T8 baby, WOOOOOOOO). And add to that the fact that they now cost us CP and the same amount of points as the loyalist versions despite losing out on Legion Traits and Combat Doctrines and youve got a recipe for one salty Rob. The Death Guard get the Blight Drone, which is pretty cool, but nothing else. Imperial Fists Astraeus Super-heavy Tank. The bad news is, it now degrades in much more boring fashion, losing Movement, WS, and BS (dropping to 5+), but it doesnt lose any Attacks or Strength, so at least theres that. Finally, theWasp Assault Walker is justgone, which is a blow to some configurations ofExpert Crafter go-wide builds, as you lose the option of essentially taking three more deep-strike War Walkers. Credit: Jack Hunter. will find the Warhammer 40,000 datasheets for the entire range. The second thing to note is that this section includes a single new Stratagem: The SmokescreenStratagem from Codex: Space Marines makes an appearance here, allowing units with the relevant keyword (mostly tanks) to pop smoke when shot at for 1 CP instead of having that ability for free in a more proactive use way. Tau also do very well in the points department with the Rvarna getting a big points cut, we also see a number of weapons tweaks too, with increased damage and strength here and there across the range, perhaps pointing at any future upcoming changes in a new book on the horizon. Imperial Fists Deimos Vindicator Laser Destroyer. Now it only ignores modifiers for Combat Attrition meaning it is still possible to force you off an objective from shooting. #warhammercommunity #warhammer #warhammer40k #khorne #angron #worldeaters #40k #arksofomen #paintingwarhammer #paintingforgeworld #painting #paintings #miniatures #miniaturespainting #warmongers #ad. Its unfortunate that these are just presented as a recommendation, as they effectively mean nothing and people will continue to play with whatever rules they want. All the titans are winners. Boo. What about the new thunderhawk rules? Other Cerastus-Knights are all only 12 movement at top bracket now, which isnt a huge thing, but it is still a nerf. Most Ork vehicles that are tank-style, along with Mega and Meka dreads, gain the Ramshackle rule from Trukks, giving them a chance to reduce incoming damage to 1 on a roll of a 6. So yeah, 2+ save, and 5 points cheaper for what you probably were already doing with this unit. The Death Guard also get a Greater Blight Drone with the Death Guard keyword, making this fully compatible with the Death Guard book and the Plague Companies rules. There isnt any massive rules changes, but some minor adjustments and a few buffs/discounts scattered around (or in the case of Venatari, a minor change with a HUGE impact). The Thousand Sons appear to get nothing, which sucks. Also the only weapon that costs points now is the Arachnus Storm Cannon (which costs the same as before effectively), so every other weapon load out is cheaper now, which is cool. Also RIP Samus, who has been consigned to the Legendary dustbin of history. Chaos Daemons get some welcome points adjustments, no longer have we got to have points values tied to the Gods holy numbers! Of the various suits, the Rvarna feels like the big winner. If you are a fan of Forge World models and want the chance to use them in your games of 40k then you really should pick this book up, and while I understand that for pure Tyranid players it may seem a shame you have to fork out for the entire book, for those who collect multiple armies it is great having all these profiles collected in one place! The third big change is the inclusion of the Martial Legacyrule. Realistically, though theyre cheap you probably still want Leman Russes over them, since they get double the shots most of the time and can take Orders. Custodes Telemon Dreadnought. The Astra Militarum were the OG beneficiaries of Forge World units, and they retain a prodigious range, though some of their options have been archived off as part of this update (mostly very similar variants on existing units). All The New Imperial Armor Compendium 40k Rules - Spikey Bits The Imperial Knights get profiles for all Knight variants currently produced by Forge World including some much appreciated points cuts! Also Available on Spotify & Google Podcasts, The Hive Tyrant was one of the first models I ever painted for Warhammer 40k, so when I saw an unpainted one on ebay I knew I had to paint it up in honour of it! Its much more interesting now with 6 shots in either standard or supercharge, at strength 8, ap-3, and 2 damage in standard mode, bumping up to strength 9 and damage 3 when supercharged. Given they can go after hordes very effectively as well, I think these have been priced pretty close to right. The one sting in the tail here is that hes returned with theSpeedwaaagh! This book is absolutely stackedwith content, and up front we have to be clear we are not going to go through every single datasheet line by line, as theres far too many for us to possibly do that. 9th Edition Imperial Armour Compendium: The Goonhammer Review So if you were debating trying it before, it is certainly more tempting now (but still D3 damage, ugh). Join us on www.youtube.com/spruesbrews from 7pm - 9pm each Sunday! Drukhari only have two options, and theyre both kind of fine. There are two wide-reaching rules for marines. All of them got boosts and points drops. Massive thanks to @warhammerofficial for sending us a free review copy of Angron! Each void shield is a 3 wound pool that has to be eaten through before the vehicle itself takes any damage, and that pool cant overflow so if a lascannon hits for 6 damage the void shield will absorb 3 damage, and the other 3 will just vanish. Chaos codex trove The Air, Water, and Fire element types can carry the following effects. He is still the only leviathan remaining with WS and BS 2+, but even at his new lower points cost doesnt offer much. Also gained the -1D taken Dread ability we have seen the Marine Dreads get, got an extra base attack (reasons), and got 5 points cheaper. Grey Knights get a variant of the Land Raider which has psycannons on it, for some reason with a different profile than seen on normal ones. Imperial Armour Compendium Review. It also has a much more sturdy defensive profile, and an improved version of the thermal jets rule for stuff it flies over. Im here to talk about CHAOS! You have to agree that is a massive amount of profiles available in the book! Likewise their Dreadnoughts also get the same damage reducing abilities to bring them inline! Right out the gate, theCarnodon gets a minor discount and some extra wounds nothing exciting, but nothing to sniff at either. Units have also had the CORE keyword added, setting them up to be futureproofed for a future Custodes Codex. Combined with the contents of the new Space Marines Codex you will be able to carry the torch for these under represented armies! Additionally all the Moirax went down to 12 movement like the Cerastus, again because reasons. All of the Forge World Chaos Space Marine characters, including the Chaos Hellwright, on and off his Dark Abeyant. 13 - War Machines of the Lost and the Damned, Imperial Armour - Apocalypse I (Second Edition), https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Imperial_Armour_Compendium&oldid=487737, Datasheet entries for two new Factions bespoke to this book . Sagittarum Guard [CORE] : Same points, but apparently the bolter half of their gun was a heavy bolter, because now it is 2 damage. 173.9M . This is a great change as I often felt some of the Forge World units had some very odd costings. I have been crying out for the Augmented Mount to be usable on any strength of attack, as previously this was locked to S4 and below only, which was a little situational. **Somebody give Forge World a camera**My first look at the Imperial Armour Compendium from Forge World.Price 40EnjoySave on Warhammer 40K here: - Elemen. Warhammer 40k . Across the rest of the Astra Militarum section we seem some great Quality of Life updates as well as weapon and profile updates that make for some fun changes to these units! However, were concerned that if we dont make this statement Condit will kill us: Just play Titanicus instead. Otherwise unchanged. Losing the grav rule hurts, especially against potential reserve charges. It got both cheaper and bump in firepower, making it an interesting option for someone who wants to go in on vehicles. With recent 9th edition books making this change as well, the points cost of each model is at the end of each section. If one of the shields takes damage but isnt destroyed, itll regenerate at the beginning of your command phase, which is cute but is unlikely to regularly happen in practice as most decent alpha strikes will go through both of the shields. It also helps that the statline is still fine theyve gone to 9W rather than 12, but are at least non-degrading, and get the always-on ability to ignore AP-1, a nice extra upside. Adrasite Spears remain unchanged (and mostly garbage anyway). Death Rider Command Squadrons and Commanders have also survived, with the Death Rider Squadron also still existing, and with improved rules too! I absolutely do not think doing so is a good idea for your army, but its in a similar spot to a few other things now where it probably isroughly costed right for what it can do, its just that factors of the mission design still keep it non-competitive. which get a few tweaks but dont change massively. You Give Goonhammer Writers Serotonin. Aquilon Custodians [CORE] : Fists and bolter is 5 points cheaper!?!?! Also randomly lost 1 point in base strength characteristic, not that is was any good in melee anyway. In the same way as Space Marines, the Traitors also have to spend an additional CP if they want to take a Martial Legacy unit. 44.3M . https://www.youtube.com/live/huzAXt0Wlmg?feature=share #warhammercommunity #StreamingLive #PaintingWarhammer, Blood for the blood god!! In the points section these are listed correctly however. We see quite a lot of points changes too, with a lot of the relic entries becoming cheaper across the board, with other units being adjusted upwards. In this book you. Its tougher, its way meaner on the offence, it starts with its 5++ and grows a 5+++as well if it devours something and only pays an extra 20pts for the privilege.
